After living in the Northeast for 20 years, I always felt that I would return to the Cincinnati area at some time in my life. That opportunity presented itself in June and I took it. When I was living in NY and came back to visit, there was always a clear difference in the way of life and in the people of the two areas. It reminded me of the movie, Sweet Home Alabama. I love that movie. There is something to be said for the sameness of a hometown. Even though the physical presence of the place has changed A LOT, the heart and soul of it has not. The essence of this place still makes it HOME. I didn't realize how quickly I would fall back into living comfortably here. I guess I feel like it's still "my place." I'm not a transplant, but a hometown girl. My roots are here, my childhood is here, my "me" was created here.
I know so many people run from the place where they spend their formative years seeking the better life, the more exciting life, but the comfort of returning to a place that can still be called your own after 20 years - there's something to be said about things that don't change.
